realising suddenly

by Arran James

i myself am war– Georges Bataille

can’t help but laugh
at the things that should make me
angry
and only succeed
in making me aware
of exactly
who i am
or take myself
to be
and how all those doubts
vanish
and how i know
i deserve her
and that she loves me;
its strange
perhaps it takes
the accusations
of someone
you barely know
acting out of
protection
or something equally as
primal
to rouse
you to your
sense
